An app being developed to help visually impaired railway passengers is among the transport technology projects receiving new Government funding.
Bromley-based Makesense Technology has been awarded a share of £1.96 million, the Department for Transport said.
It is creating an app which will use augmented reality to produce bespoke walking routes in railway stations for visually impaired passengers.
Another project receiving money through the Transport Research and Innovation Grants (Trig) programme aims to use large kites to tow ships.
Trig funding helps turn research into real-world solutions to transport issues.
Transport minister Jesse Norman said: “From making travelling easier for visually impaired passengers to improving rural connectivity, these winning projects have the potential to transform the future of transport.
“The Government wants the UK to be a world leader in the future of transport, and through the Trig programme the Department for Transport is supporting innovators and businesses to decarbonise and improve transport while growing the economy and supporting jobs across the UK.”
