For 2023, its 26th year, The Railway Touring Company are offering over 50 rail based holidays within their programme.
The 2021-2 winner of the British Travel Awards Best Small Travel Company for Rail Holidays has a 25 year ‘track’ record of organising heritage rail themed holidays combining unusual routes and historic trains (often chartered for the exclusive use of its travellers) to captivate rail enthusiasts along with dramatic scenery, cultural interest and good food to appeal to those simply seeking a memorable journey.
There are several options for Switzerland. ‘The Alpine Steam Express’, ‘Highlights of Switzerland in Summer’ and ‘The Swiss Bernese Oberland’ tours all provide stunning scenery. There are also tours on offer in 2023 exploring the Railways and World War II history in both Italy and Poland. For amazing views, as well as the Switzerland tours, there is a Norway tour on offer, visiting the Norwegian Fjords.
Returning to the programme for 2023 is the Colorado and The Rocky Mountains Steam tour in August/September. Starting in Denver, the tour features stunningly scenic railways and lots of history. Highlights include The Pikes Peak Cog Railway, The Durango to Silverton Railway and The Royal Gorge Scenic Railroad among others on this packed tour of the ‘Old West’.
Many of the holidays within Europe offer trains which are specially chartered for our tour party and some travel over unusual routes rarely used by passenger trains. An interesting variety of steam and diesel locomotives representing various track gauges are included.
Many of our European tours in Western Europe include travel by Eurostar, a much more relaxed way to start your European holiday than the hustle and bustle of an airport; your holiday truly starts from London St Pancras, instead of when you arrive at your destination.
