Across the UK is a network of mysterious ‘ghost trains’ and ‘ghost stations’. In this new Railway Hub video, Ben visits Kirton Lindsey Railway Station and Brigg Railway Station in Lincolnshire, two of these so-called ‘ghost stations’.
A ‘ghost train’ – sometimes referred to as a parliamentary train – is a name given to a rail service that runs with an extremely limited service and is close to being abandoned by the line operator.
However, because of the cost of legal processes, it costs more to close the line than keep it open with a limited service. This leaves behind a zombie service of ‘ghost trains’ and ‘ghost stations’ that are barely used by anyone.
