Readers of some of the railway press will have noticed articles surrounding the suspension of trains at the Great Central Railway Nottingham until Easter 2021.
The Great Central Railway PLC (based in Leicestershire and running from Loughborough south to Birstall on the outskirts of Leicester) wishes it to be known they have absolutely no operational, legal or commercial association with the Nottinghamshire namesakes and are not, in any way, affected by any of the issues described in the article.
Great Central Railway (Leicestershire) commenced the process of re-opening their Railway in early July following the COVID-19 lockdown and are running all train services as normal together with weekend first class dining trains, first class afternoon teas and many family and enthusiasts’ special events.
‘Confusing and counterproductive’
Managing Director, Michael Gough said: “It is highly frustrating that, to the casual observer, we end up being linked by some people with GCR Nottingham. We share part of our name and that is it – there is no other company or commercial link whatsoever.
“At a time when we are heavily promoting our Santa Expresses and our Winter Wonderlights illuminated train experiences both of which start on Saturday, November 28, any perceived link with the Nottingham organisation ends up being very confusing and counterproductive.
“Whilst we sympathise with the plights of any heritage railway, we must act in our own best interests and we will be working hard over the coming days to take steps to protect our trademark and ensure there is no confusion.”
