The North Norfolk Railway is launching its 50th anniversary season with a very special evening dining train departing from Sheringham at 7pm on Friday, February 14. The Valentine’s Day Diner will allow guests to combine the romance of a steam-hauled journey in traditional, first class dining cars with a delicious three-course dinner prepared and served on the move.
Guests will be welcomed to Sheringham’s lovingly restored Victorian station with a glass of bubbly before stepping onto the train and relaxing at their reserved table in a luxury dining car. Choices on the evening’s special menu include a sharing platter of continental meats and cheeses to start, with slow-cooked, hearty lamb shank or pan fried cod loin amongst the main courses while desserts include an indulgent strawberry and clotted cream mousse or a sharing assiette of mini puds that are perfect for couples.
The line’s food and beverage manager, Gemma Parfitt, said “Steam trains are the epitome of romance so what better way to treat your Valentine than to book a table for two dinner aboard The North Norfolkman luxury dining train?
“The dining cars evoke the atmosphere of a bygone era with charming interiors of varnished wood and a distinctive upholstery moquette and we’re delighted that we can bring forward the start our dining train season to incorporate this very special evening”.
The Valentine’s Diner marks the start of the line 2025 season which will see a year-long series of events and activities to celebrate 50 years since the Poppy Line was reopened by volunteers and the railway’s popular daytime services resume a day later, running throughout half-term (February 15-23).
General manager Graham Hukins said: “We are set for a packed year as we mark this major milestone. The love of steam and enthusiasm among our volunteers is as strong now as it was for the pioneers that saved the line half a century ago. They are looking forward to welcoming passengers throughout 2025 and are overjoyed to launch this landmark year with such a special occasion.”
This year marks the North Norfolk Railway’s golden anniversary, 50 years since the line first operated steam services out of Sheringham Station during the preservation era. An exciting programme of daily services, special events and dining trains is planned and visitors are invited to join in the festivities and help the heritage line celebrate this momentous year.
