A right Royal Celebration will be held at the Watercress Line to mark the King’s Coronation on Sunday, May 7 from 1pm to 5pm.
Everybody’s invited to bring a big picnic, their chairs, tables and bunting, and enjoy a relaxed afternoon of patriotic music and entertainment with family and friends, taking place against the backdrop of Alresford Station which will be decorated in majestic style.
In celebration of King Charles III’s Coronation, the Watercress Line is planning a stately programme, including a trumpet fanfare on arrival and a visit by a specially dressed coronation train. There will be music from around the British Isles provided by Alder Valley Brass Band and 1940s singer Stephanie Belle. The Winchester Morris Men will be dancing and singing, local personality Paddy Roadnight will be the compere, and there will possibly be an informal jamming session to round off the afternoon for any musicians who might like to join in.
The public are invited to bring gazebos and dress them in grand royal style which adds to the fun of the event – there will be a prize for the most regally adorned gazebo! There will also be a couple of competitions for the best-decorated coronation cake and best-dressed individual. With face painting, some stalls including tombola and a raffle, hot and cold food, a wine bar and craft beer tent, there will be something for everyone to enjoy.
The Watercress Line’s interim CEO, Rebecca Dalley, said: “We are so excited about our Royal Celebration event – there is no better way to commemorate the historic coronation than at our very British heritage railway in New Alresford. We have a busy programme of entertainment planned and it will be a chance to encourage community spirit and have fun together. Tickets should be bought in advance at https://watercressline.co.uk/a-royal-celebration/, priced £5 for adults, £3 for children aged five to 16, and free for under-fours. Gazebos are £10 extra per party.
