The Yorkshire Wolds Railway’s 2022 operating season has begun – and continues every Sunday and bank holiday Monday until October 30.
Throughout the winter period, members have been hard at work painting, sanding, building, tracklaying and everything in between at the fully volunteer-run heritage railway near Fimber.
Chairman John Lidster said: “Our members have kindly dedicated many hours of work both on and off site to ensure we are operational. The biggest change for visitors this year is that we are now able to offer cab rides right to the end of Field 2 and over the point that was commissioned earlier in the year. For the 2022 season we have also slightly changed our operating hours and are now open from 10am to 4pm.”
In addition to taking a cab ride, walking through the visitor centre, or catching up on the ongoing restoration work on the brake van or second locomotive Patricia, John continued: “Access to the visitor centre and car park at Fimber Halt is free, and a cab ride is priced at £3.50 per person. We are really fortunate to have such an attraction on our doorstep and I would like to thank all those who continue to support us.”
The YWR is currently on the look-out for a health and safety director with operational safety under ORR and HRA guidelines and a lead person for the maintenance and repair of locomotives and rolling stock – ideally with previous heritage or mainline railway experience. Additionally, there are usually volunteers on site on most Wednesdays and Saturdays who are happy to show what is being done, subject to safety requirements.
