“After being held for a London-bound Virgin Pendolino service, the new build Peppercorn Pacific, 60163 Tornado departed Carnforth loop en-route to Crewe,” says Ian Hardman.
“With a number of signals between Carnforth and Lancaster, the locomotive picked up the pace and approached Lancaster. As the engine drew to Hest Bank, the signal on the fast line at Lancaster turned green.
A short time later, with a screaming whistle and a good head of steam, Tornado tore through Lancaster Station with the Border Raider, bathed in the low setting evening sunshine, allowing for a gorgeous broad side photographic opportunity.”
