Great Central Railwayana Auctions is hosting an online auction to support Rail Aid, a new initiative to help raise vital money for the life-saving work of Railway Children.
Dubbed, ‘the rail industry’s answer to Children In Need’ and supported by senior industry figures including Network Rail’s Chairman, Sir Peter Hendy; HS2’s CEO, Mark Thurston; and TfL’s Commissioner, Andy Byford, Rail Aid is inviting people to undertake all types of fundraising activity and will culminate in a live broadcast on Friday 27th November.
The online auction will take place on the evening of Thursday 26th November, supported by Easy Live Auction and Porterbrook.
The auction will feature a wide range of lots, including Class 90 nameplates and many other desirable modern traction items. It will also include many rail experiences that money can’t buy.
Rail Minister, Chris Heaton-Harris MP has announced his backing for Rail Aid: “Our railways have always been at the heart of our society. The whole industry has worked tirelessly to keep the country moving during this pandemic, and it’s great to see the railway family continuing its support of those affected by Covid-19, especially vulnerable young people.
“I have never been more impressed with the work that this industry does and Rail Aid is a fantastic way to help change lives for the better.”
Terina Keene, chief executive of Railway Children, said: “So many people have been hit hard by the effects of Covid-19 and that means children, both in the UK and overseas, are even more vulnerable to finding themselves on the street and in need of our support.
“The railway family has played such a key role during a time of national emergency and we really appreciate the support of Great Central Railwayana Auctions, Porterbrook and Easy Live Auction.”
