THE Churchward County Trust (CCT) is hoping to build on the success of its first year by launching a new ‘Forty 4-4-0s Club’ to raise the £40,000 required to cast the four coupled wheels for new-build GWR 4-4-0 No. 3840 County of Montgomery.

All the platework required to assemble the main frames is cut and ready for delivery to Tyseley, and a source of funding has been identified to pay for the manufacture of the extension frames.

The CCT is now looking ahead at the next stage of the project and turning the frames into a rolling chassis.
The trust already has a significant head start in this regard, thanks largely to the Great Western Society, which is providing the two 3ft 2in-diameter wheelsets (plus horns and axleboxes) for No. 3840’s bogie and also the pattern for the driving wheels.
